Metachroma represents the evolution of an existing visual system. A second chapter built on the same spatial structure, but transformed through color, material contrast, and visual intensity.
The installation shifts from atmosphere to expression.
Created for SpinExpo Shanghai, Metachroma continues the dialogue between image, material, and space, introducing a new seasonal language while preserving continuity.
The objective was to demonstrate how a visual installation can be renewed without being rebuilt.
For this winter edition, the booth was completely re-dressed. The warm, pastel exterior of the previous season was replaced by charcoal tones and deep blacks, structured through textured fabrics.
The exterior acted as a visual frame, preparing visitors for a more intense interior experience.
Inside the installation, imagery became more saturated and expressive. Double-sided prints introduced contrast: on one side, colorful macro compositions of yarns; on the other, dense mixes of fibers and yarns set against black backgrounds.
The result was a layered visual field that changed with movement and perspective.
The images were created through physical experimentation. Color combinations of fibers and yarns were composed manually on set, immediately before filming.
These compositions recalled impressionist paintings, built not with pigment, but with material itself.
Video content focused on macro shots captured inside real production laboratories. Extreme proximity revealed texture, structure, and chromatic interaction, turning technical material into expressive image.
Light and motion were used sparingly, allowing color to define the experience.
Presented at SpinExpo Shanghai, Metachroma generated strong attention and engagement. The installation stood out for its visual intensity and material focus, receiving an exceptionally positive response from visitors.
It confirmed the effectiveness of an evolving installation model.
Metachroma demonstrates how long-term exhibition projects can grow over time. By maintaining a stable spatial framework and reinterpreting it season after season through image and material, the installation achieves continuity without repetition.
A system designed once, capable of becoming something entirely new with minimal intervention. Color becomes matter.
