Wool Origins. A cinematic exploration of wool, landscape, and material presence.

This project explores the origins of wool through atmosphere and material presence. A film that observes wool as a natural force, shaped by landscape, time, and transformation.

The narrative unfolds slowly, allowing texture, density, and movement to guide perception.

Commissioned by Xinao, Wool Origins was developed as a long-term brand film focused on redefining the visual identity of wool within an international industrial context.

The objective was to build an aesthetic language capable of making complex material origins accessible, calm, and visually engaging.

The film begins in Australia, where wool originates. Wide landscapes and open horizons establish a sense of scale, light, and distance, grounding the material in its natural environment.

Wool is introduced not through explanation, but through atmosphere.

Rather than focusing on individuals, the film concentrates on the material itself. Wool appears as mass, surface, and movement, responding to light and space. Its character emerges through observation, not narration.

The narrative moves to early stages of transformation inside production facilities in Tongxiang, near Shanghai. Here, wool is shown in transition, shifting gradually from raw material to ordered form.

The process is revealed through continuity and calm repetition.

Black and white imagery reduces visual noise and amplifies contrast, texture, and volume. The absence of color allows wool’s physical qualities to remain central, reinforcing its unique visual energy. Every frame is designed to slow perception and invite attention.

Wool Origins adopts a restrained and contemplative cinematic language. Long takes, minimal sound design, and measured pacing allow the viewer to remain with the material.

The film avoids explanation, trusting the image to communicate meaning.

The first edition of the project was presented at SpinExpo Shanghai, where the film was screened on a 168-meter-long LED installation, transforming material observation into an immersive visual experience.

In Europe, the project was presented during Pitti Firenze through a dedicated space in the city, aligned with the international calendar of the fair.

Wool Origins demonstrates how film can elevate material perception through aesthetics rather than information. By focusing on presence, light, and continuity, wool becomes a visual and cultural subject rather than a technical one.

Through a consistent and restrained visual approach, the film creates recognition without repetition. Wool becomes a stable narrative element, capable of supporting long-term brand communication across different contexts and markets.

The result is a long-term narrative asset capable of supporting exhibitions, brand communication, and strategic positioning.
